THE CHURCH BESIDE THE ROAD We visited this little church,It seems Just yesterday.with friendly smile you greeted us And asked us then to stay.You spoke of God’s true mercy,Of His tender loving care.Then hope and peace returned To those who waited there.Through each ,tiny window Soft sunlight filtered in To bathe each humble person And the soul that lay therein.You read the Holy Scriptures Of God’s redeeming love.
If we follow His commandments,We’ll be with Him above. You asked His forgiveness For each weary, contrite soul That He cleanse all our hearts To make us free and whole.Truly, you had helped us;
You had lightened every load In God’s house that morning,The church beside the road.
